The Longwood University Police Department (LUPD) has made an arrest in connection with an armed robbery that occurred Saturday at Longwood Landings on Main Street, according to an LUPD press release issued Monday.
The release noted that Javonte Elijah Juan Williams was arrested Monday on charges of armed robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
In a release issued Sunday, the LUPD indicated that it had identified the suspect as Williams, 23, of Farmville, and that working with the Farmville Police Department, it had obtained a warrant for his arrest.
A Saturday LUPD alert noted that the suspect was described as a black male, about 6 feet tall, mid-20s, last seen wearing a black coat, blue jeans, a black skull cap and carrying a black bookbag.
The Farmville communications office received a report of the robbery at 2:47 p.m. on Saturday, LUPD officials stated in the Sunday release. The suspect fled from the university-managed apartment complex away from the main Longwood campus.
Longwood first alerted the campus community about the investigation into the reported armed robbery on Saturday at 3:22 p.m.
