A public hearing during the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors meeting April 17 will pertain to a potential rezoning for a property on the south side of Route 60.

Robert Wise, the owner of the one-acre vacant property, will seek to have the property rezoned from R-2, Rural Residential, to B-1, Business.

“It’s in the comprehensive plan as a high intensity growth area,” Planning and Zoning Director J.P. Duncan said during the Feb. 26 planning commission meeting. “With that said, it would achieve goal three, objective two (and) goal five, objective one.”

The documentation from the Cumberland County Planning Commission February meeting packet cited that the rezoning request was made for potential, future development.

“The surrounding properties are a mixture of single family residential and commercial,” the meeting packet cited. “The applicant is requesting a rezoning to B-1, Business, for the purpose of future development.”

“It is consistent with the comprehensive plan,” Duncan said. He noted he sent notifications about the rezoning to nearby residents but that no one has responded to them.

Planners voted unanimously in favor of recommending the rezoning to the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors.

The April 17 board of supervisors’ public hearing will take place at 7 p.m. at the Cumberland Courthouse.
