The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@FarmvilleHerald.com.

ARTIST RECEPTION, 6-8 p.m. hosted by Central Virginia Arts at the Riverside Café, 522 N. Main St., Farmville. The reception is open to the public and free. The exhibit features the works of Ursula Burgess and Marianne Dennison, and the display will be on view from April 2 to May 27.

153RD ANNIVERSARY, of the Battles of Sailor’s Creek at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park. Rain or shine.

PAMPLIN DEPOT BARN DANCE. Free admission, donations appreciated. Sponsored this month by the High Bridge Trail State Park. Also featuring a delicious, nutritious, full course & affordable meal.

APRIL 8

ANNUAL MISSIONARY MINISTRY, 3 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church. We are asking that you wear off white. The Rev. Earl Walker, pastor of Fourth Mount Zion Baptist Church will be the guest preacher for the occasion and his choir, ushers and church family, will accompany him.

42ND PASTOR’S AIDE ANNIVERSARY 3 p.m. of Eleven Oaks Baptist Church, Crewe. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Jerry Street and the Popular Lawn Baptist Church family, Blackstone. Come out and help us celebrate this glorious occasion.

PROGRAM, 3 p.m. entitled “Put on the Full Armor of God” sponsored by New Witt Baptist Church Hospitality Ministry. The Hospitality Ministry will celebrate their 4th Anniversary during the program. All are welcome to be present. Refreshments will be served.

PASTOR ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. for Rev. Joseph Allen at Spreading Oak Baptist Church. The Rev. Kevin Jones from Brooklyn will deliver the message. All are welcome.

ANNUAL PROGRAM, 11 a.m. of the First Baptist Greater Works Missionary during the regular worship service. Rev. Michael Evans will be the Messenger.

152ND CHURCH ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. of the Baptist Union Baptist Church, 125 Baptist Union Road, Dillwyn. The Rev. Calvin Booker from the Slate River Baptist Church will be the guest speaker along with his congregation. Fork Union Baptist Church Choir will render the music. Lunch will follow.

MISSION DAY, 11 a.m. at The Holy Trinity Baptist Church, Dillwyn. The Rev. Sharon Williams, Pastor of the Jerusalem Baptist Church will be the guest speaker. Lunch will be served following the service.

GOSPEL MUSIC PROGRAM, 3 p.m. sponsored by The Apostolic Faith Church of All Nations Women’s Auxiliary. Area gospel music artists will be featured, and door prizes will be given. The church is located at 1358 Sheppards Road, Farmville.

ANNUAL FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY, 10:45 a.m. at The Mt. Ellis Baptist Church, 8409 George Washington Hwy., Keysville. Regular Worship Service at 11 a.m. Guest pastor the Reverend Haney Thomas Jr., Pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church, Meherrin. All are invited to attend.

WORSHIP SERVICES, 11 a.m. at Forest Baptist Church, Meherrin. The Rev. W. Roger Dove will be preaching on these three dates.

APRIL 9

FREE SPRING CONCERT, 7 p.m. by the Heart of Virginia Community Band in Molnar Auditorium, Wygal Hall at Longwood University. An hour of music across many genres and time periods. This is a family friendly event.

APRIL 10

ANNUAL PANCAKE SUPPER, 5-7 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church at Glenmore, Routes 655 and 602 in downtown Glenmore. A love offering will be appreciated. Bill Humphrey and other country music performers will perform live during the event. Everyone is welcome and the public is invited.

RECEPTION, 5-7 p.m. for artist June Martin Taylor at the Pamplin Depot. Her work is currently displayed in the Community Room of the Pamplin Depot where it will remain through April. Light refreshments will be served.

APPOMATTOX OYSTER AND SEAFOOD FESTIVAL, sponsored by The Appomattox County Historical Society’s. The event will feature more than 30 vendors, various food items and product tastings. There will be activities for adults and children.

LENTEN SERVICES/FREE LUNCHEON, noon at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church, 1 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland. The theme this year is “Walking in Newness of Life.” The speaker will be the Rev. Cameron Cloudand. The topic is Get in Step. Lunch will be provided.

SENIOR SAINTS APPRECIATION SERVICE, 2 p.m. at Fork Union Baptist Church, Buckingham. Theme, “In All Things Give Thanks” and we will be recognizing our members that are 80 years and older. The Rev Dr. Robert Perkins will be the guest minister and Mighty Men of Mt Zion will be the guest choir.

THE GREAT FARMVILLE DUCK DERBY, 5,000 rubber ducks will set sail on the Appomattox with a destination of Riverside park. All proceeds will benefit the partners of The United Way of Prince Edward County. You can purchase a duck or a quack pack at the Chamber office.

MAY 6

90TH ANNIVERSARY, 11 a.m – 2 p.m of Fitzgerald Baptist Church. Special music, speakers, and potluck luncheon.
