Leo Francis Clerkin

Leo Francis Clerkin, 97, of Farmville, VA passed away on March 25, 2018. He was born on February 28, 1921 in Johnsonburg, PA to parents Leo Clerkin, Sr. and Florence Ann Holly. He died March 25, 2018 in Burkeville, VA.

He was preceded in death by his wife Georgia Mae Jurena, they were married 55 years and his 2nd wife, Nadine Flood, they were married six months, his siblings, Agnes Danneker, Katherine Kissel, Charles Edward Clerkin, a daughter, Kathleen McGoinigal, grandchildren, Tracy Lynn Gilliam and Benjamin Gilliam.

He is survived by daughters Gerri Woodson, Diane Gilliam (Donald) and Mary Lou Cornwell (Steve); grandchildren, Debbie Slocum (Gerald), Dayna Palino (John), Allison Hunter (Terry), Brian McGoinigal (Jill), Scott McGoinigal (Sandy), Chris McGoinigal, Kathy Myslinski (Jeff) and James Cornwell (Jessica) and 12 great-grandchildren.

Leo was one of the oldest members of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. The youngest Exalted Ruler of the BPOE Elks, a member of the VFW, Farmville, VA, An active Beagle Club member – Old Dominion Beagle Club and was a Paratrooper in the US Army 101 Screaming Eagles where he was a medic and received the Bronze Star, along with other awards.

He was a loving and carefree man who was known as one of the “Good Guys.” He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

A funeral Mass service will be held on April 2, 2018 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church at 11 a.m. A visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens. A Reception will follow at Parrish Hall, Farmville, VA.
