Barriers at the corners of North and Third streets visible this week gave rise to rumors that the lot had been sold, likely to the neighboring Weyanoke Hotel due to open soon. The theory is half-correct. The lot has been sold, according to staff at Wells Fargo, which maintains a walk-in office across North Street. John Shideler, general manager of the Weyanoke Hotel, said Friday that he’s not the buyer. It turns out it’s Matt King, who owns Walk2Campus Properties and specializes in student housing. He purchased the lot, which spans just under a half-acre, to provide additional parking for his tenants. King said he has approximately 300 tenants, which means parking is a premium.
