Lewis is new librarian

Meagan Lewis will serve as the new librarian at the Cumberland County Public Library, Lewis and Cumberland County Board of Trustees Deanna Lacy said.

Lewis said Tuesday she previously served as library assistant and cataloguer at the Richmond County Public Library at Rappahannock Community College. Lewis started at the Cumberland library Tuesday.
“I see that there is a lot of great staff, and wonderful patrons,” Lewis said, “and I’m excited for this next step in the journey both here at Cumberland and in the community at large.”
Lewis said she enjoyed interacting with patrons at the Rappahannock Community College Library.
“(I enjoyed) getting to know people in the community, and figuring out how to best lend my skills to help them progress their lives and their skills (going) forward,” Lewis said.
Lewis received her bachelor’s degree from Longwood University in the class of 2013 with a major in history and a minor in political science. She received her master’s degree in library science from Florida State University, Lacy said. Lacy said Lewis’ experience and enthusiasm will serve the library well.
“This will be her first director role,” Lacy said. “It’s an exciting opportunity for her, and it’s an exciting opportunity for us.” Robin Sapp, former librarian, said she will serve as librarian for the Department of Corrections (DOC) office in Burkeville and for three other facilities in the region.
Her last day was Friday, March 16.
“I’ve learned a lot and the people here are great,” Sapp said about her librarian position in Cumberland, noting she will miss the position and community. “I will definitely come back and visit.”
Sapp said the position will be closer to her home in Nottoway County. An opportunity to say farewell to Sapp will take place during the “Sweets in the Stacks” fundraiser at the library Saturday from 4-6 p.m. Lacy said she would miss Sapp’s gentle disposition and willingness to serve the community.
“She’s been a wonderful librarian, and she’s brought some innovative ideas and a sense of enthusiasm.”
