Hampden-Sydney College’s golf team rose 22 spots in the most recent national rankings by Golfstat.com, leaping from 49th a week ago to standing at 27th on Wednesday. The jump was in large part due to the Tigers’ strong performance last weekend when they finished seventh in the highly competitive Jekyll Island Intercollegiate. They were led by senior Parker Smith, pictured at left. In the three-day event, the Tigers placed ahead of 13 teams in the national Top 50 and four teams in the national Top 10. Hampden-Sydney returns to action Monday, competing in the Wynlakes Spring Invitational in Montgomery, Alabama.
