February 11 — Happy Birthday wishes are sent out to Glenda Mahunik, of Brookneal, celebrating on February 7; Joyce Clifton, of Appomattox, celebrating on Saturday, February 8; Grace Hudgins, of Cumberland, celebrating on Sunday, February 9, Jean Talley, of New Canton, and Gladys LeSueur, celebrating on Monday, February 10; Lee Sullivan, of Cumberland, celebrating on Tuesday, February 11; and Tabitha Gough, of Wingina, celebrating on Thursday, February 13.

Our thoughts and prayers for a continued speedy recovery are extended to all those who are sick and shut-in everywhere.

Welcome home to Ailene Snoddy of Arvonia who returned to her home spending some time in the hospital. She is said to be doing well.

Claire Landis, of Farmville, and Mae Rushford, of Cumberland, visited in the home of Ruby Cogdill on Sunday afternoon, February 2.

A nice crowd attended a birthday lunch Saturday, February 1 at Welcome Wesleyian Church in Arvonia, held in honor of Ella R. Snoddy’s 90th birthday. Everyone enjoyed great food, fun and fellowship. The event was given by her son-in-law and her daughter, Chuck and Nancy Fairchild, and family and friends.

Barry and Linda Miles of Cumberland, Susie Taylor, of Dillwyn, and Patricia Woodfin, of Arvonia, all enjoyed an afternoon meal at a Charlottesville Restaurant on Tuesday, February 4.

Sympathy is extended to the Davis family of Arvonia. Russell Say Davis, 56, departed this life on Thursday, January 30. A funeral service was held February 2. He will be greatly missed by all. A dedicated prominent business leader of Buckingham County.

James and Virginia Boyles, of Cumberland, visited in the home of Ailene Snoddy in Arvonia on Saturday afternoon, February 1.

Barry Miles will be providing Gospel music on Friday afternoon, February 7 at 4:30 p.m. at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Dillwyn. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Appomattox County High School Athletic Booster Club presents the Appomattox Bluegrass Concert Series for 2014. The first concert of the series will present Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver at the Appomattox County High School Auditorium on Sunday, February 9, at 2 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets in advance call (434) 660-7101.

Spreading God’s Gifts, Inc. is a local non-profit home-grown faith-based ministry organization that assists working individuals or families in need. Their primarily serve Buckingham and surrounding counties. Spreading God’s Gifts Inc. will be hosting their annual Sweetheart Banquet on Saturday evening February 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Dillwyn. The menu includes roast beef with gravy, baked potato, green beans, salad, roll, desert and drink. All for a donation. Music will be provided through the evening by Denise Bryant of Buckingham. Door prizes will also be given away. Funds resulting from this event will be to help individuals and families in the hour of need. Buckingham Baptist Church of Gold Hill, is hosting Marriage Counseling Classes on Sunday evenings at 5 p.m. “The Marriage You’re Always Wanted,” Pastor Doug Adams is the instructor.

Buckingham Baptist Church will host a fellowship meal and Bible Study. Supper is served from 5:15 – 6:15 p.m. Wednesday evenings in the Church Fellowship Hall. Enjoy a complete meal for $3 per person. Ages three years an diner are free. There is a maximum cost of $12 a family. A Bible Study will follow. Pastor Doug Adams and the congregation cordially invites all to attend.

Cedar Baptist Church, located just off of U.S. Route 15 North of Dillwyn on State Route 650 (Trents Mill Rd.) hosts a Men’s Promise Keepers Prayer Breakfast Sunday mornings (excluding fifth Sundays) from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.
