Prince Edward County, Buckingham County and Cumberland County public schools announced they will be closed Monday via statements on their respective Facebook pages.
Prince Edward’s announcement Sunday evening stated the division’s closing was due to impending hazardous weather conditions.
Buckingham’s statement Sunday evening noted that 12-month employees do not report.
Cumberland, which instructs 12-month employees to report on time, did not release its announcement until early Monday morning.
“This is a tough call, but we will err on the side of caution,” Cumberland school officials said in the statement. “We don’t want to get everyone to school today and it begin to rain/snow and temperatures drop (although not forecasted to be below 36 degrees).”
The Cumberland announcement, which came at around 5 a.m., continued by citing that for now, plans are in place to have the school board meeting Monday evening, with a closed session at 6 p.m. and an open session at 7 p.m. Student and staff recognition and presentations will be rescheduled for the April meeting.
