The Farmville Police Department is investigating a burglary and theft that occurred at Farmville Sporting Goods on N. Main St. early Thursday morning. Police said that shortly before 5 a.m., at least four suspects forced their way into the business and took merchandise. No firearms were reported stolen.
Farmville Police are also investigating three stolen vehicles that were reported within the last 24 hours. A statement issued by the department notes that police are currently searching for a maroon 1996 Ford Explorer with Virginia license plate ADK-9386.
Police said the vehicle was taken sometime during the early morning hours from a home located on Landon Street in the Town of Farmville.
Also stolen were a red 2015 GMC pickup truck from Fourth Avenue Extension, and a silver 2003 Chevy four-door sedan from the Greens South area. Both vehicles are believed to have been involved in an attempted burglary of a business earlier Thursday morning in Buckingham County, but have now been recovered,” police said.
In the past 24 hours the Farmville Police have taken multiple reports of items missing from unlocked vehicles, and unlocked vehicles being rummaged through in several neighborhoods throughout town. Residents are encouraged to keep unattended vehicles locked and not to leave valuables in plain view.
Anyone with information on these crimes, or that may have exterior video surveillance within these neighborhoods, are encouraged to contact the Farmville Police Department at (434) 392-9259.
