Re-forestation volunteer opportunity

How would you like to be a part of history? The next phase of Sailor’s Creek Battlefield’s Re-Forestation effort will take place on Saturday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Approximately 150 saplings need to be planted along a specific portion of the Battlefield that was known to have been a forested area during the waning days of the Civil War in April 1865. This is an excellent opportunity for individual volunteers and community service groups. Any assistance is welcome, whether you can stay for one hour or for the entire five hour schedule. Food, snacks and drinks will be provided. Long sleeve shirts, pants and closed-toe shoes are highly recommended. Gloves, bug repellant, sunscreen, hand tools and first aid assistance will be provided by the park. The “Rain Date” is March 24, same time and place.

For more information and/or to check on weather conditions affecting the program, contact Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park at 804-561- 7510, or email us at sailorscreek@dcr.virginia. gov.
