Members of the Farmville Jaycees brought chili to the table Saturday evening in the hopes that the fundraiser would allow them to give back to the community.

The club served chili with meat and vegetarian chili and all of the fixings, including cheese and sour cream, chips and a beverage. Cornbread and honey butter were provided by The Fishin’ Pig.

Jack Gore with the Farmville Jaycees said the fundraiser was meant to both get the word out about the organization and use the funds from the fundraiser to donate back to causes in the community.

Gore said the organization, which is for people between the ages of 18-40, sponsors the Live at Riverside Concert Series, known previously as First Fridays, that will begin weekly in May and the annual Christmas Parade among other events.

Treasurer Brandon Clark said Jaycees use the funds from fundraisers to establish a mini-grant program that offers financial support to area organizations.

“The purpose of the grant program is to fund local organizations and community efforts that are making a positive contribution within our community,” Clark said.

Clark said Jaycees during the 2017 fiscal year have been able to donate to Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity, Friends of Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library, the Andy Taylor Center Holliday Lake 4-H Educational Center, Union Outreach Fellowship Church, Farmville Police Department and the Carl U. Eggleston Foundation.

Clark said the organization has also been able to install disability accessible swings at Grove Street Park and participate in an Adopt a Street program.

Gore said the organization acts as both a community service organization and a place for people to connect.

“It’s a young professionals community service group,” Gore said. “We also like to have fun.”
