Alvin Addison Turnes, 75

BUCKINGHAM, January 28 — Alvin Addison Turnes, 75, of Buckingham, died Wednesday, January 22, 2014 in Lynchburg. He was born October 3, 1938, a son of the late Harry S. Turnes and Minnie Wootton Turnes. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger.

Mr. Turnes grew up and attended school in Buckingham County. He was known as a horse trader and a pinhooker who speculated on livestock from the time he was a teenager. He spent many hours riding the road and selling to livestock markets in his pickup truck and ten-gallon hat and cowboy boots.

He was indeed a true cowboy and a sharp businessman whose quick smile won many friends.

A funeral service was held Sunday, January 26 at Dunkum Funeral Home with interment in the Enon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, was in charge of arrangements.
