The American Civil War Museum’s History Happy Hour returns to Third Street Brewing in Farmville, Tuesday, March 13, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Author, lecturer, and documentary filmmaker Elvatrice Belsches will discuss Virginia-native Elizabeth Keckly.
Born into enslavement in Dinwiddie County, Elizabeth Keckly purchased her freedom and gained renown as a dress designer to both Varina Davis and Mary Lincoln. Discover how Keckly became a confidant to Mrs. Lincoln, and helped to establish an organization dedicated to easing the suffering of newly-freed people in contraband camps.
The talk is free; drinks are menu priced. Guests are welcome to bring their own food. Third Street Brewing is located at 312 W. 3rd Street, Farmville, VA 23901. Space is limited so come early to grab a drink and a good seat. For more information contact Josie Butler at jbutler@acwm.org or 434-352- 5791, ext 203.
