Police respond to school threat

The Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an extensive investigation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) following a report of a threat made against Prince Edward County High School (PECHS) Wednesday.
A release from the sheriff’s office cited that officials received information about the threat at approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
“Immediately, the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office was advised of the threat, and proper precautions were initiated to ensure the safety of the students and staff of all the schools,” the release noted.
Regarding the threat, the release explained, “At this time, we do not believe that there is a credible threat; however, we are exhausting all avenues available to investigate the potential threat to both students and employees of Prince Edward County Public Schools.”
According to the release, the Sheriff’s Office will provide an update as soon as available.
Officials are asking anyone with information relating to the PECHS incident or potential incidents in the future to contact the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office at Prince Edward County Public Schools (PECPS) reported that a student made a serious threat against PECHS Wednesday, the division reported at approximately 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
“At approximately 2:30 p.m., the administration of Prince Edward County Public Schools (PECPS) was informed that a student made a serious threat against the high school,” a release from the division cited. “The administration immediately contacted law enforcement and began an internal investigation.”
Officials from the division cited that the investigation is ongoing.
“Based on current information, there is no immediate threat to the Prince Edward County Public Schools campus community,” the release noted.
It added, “schools will open tomorrow as scheduled and, because the safety of our students and staff is paramount, there will be increased police presence on campus throughout the day.”
