Pre-school registration for 2018-2019 school year for Buckingham County Public Schools will be held on Fridays, March 2 from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 4-6 p.m., and March 9 from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. This event will take place at Buckingham County Preschool, 77 Buckingham Preschool Road. Preschool is a full-day program and students ride the Buckingham county school buses.

Buckingham residents are invited to join the 10th Annual Berry Production & Marketing Conference on March 8 from 8 a.m.–4 p.m. (lunch included) at the Gateway Dining Hall at Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA. Topics covered include blueberry productions, steps to starting blackberry production on a one-acre area, potted raspberry production, pruning primrose and floricane blackberry varieties, berry health, latest research on spotted wing drosophila (SWD), and post-harvest practices for berry crops. The winter months can be dreary and cold. Exercise has been proven to improve your spirits, not to mention your physical health. Central Virginia Community Health Center invites you to participate in healthy activities. Weaving workshop will be offered at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center from April 15-18. In this workshop you will: weave cotton placemats or a table runner; choose one of several patterns; color-and-weave, plaid, or stripes; begin with a naked loom (either a rigid heddle or a four-shaft loom); learn how to dress the loom and weave; choose one of the several lace patterns for either loom type; learn easy ways of weaving lace on a rigid heddle loom; and weave with wool, rayon, and/ or cotton. This class is designed to teach the basics of weaving. The course is mostly hands-on, with short lectures and demonstration and is unique in that students will see the process on both rigid heddle and four-shaft looms. Advantages of each loom will be discussed. Students will learn about both direct and indirect warping (two methods of getting yarn onto the loom). This class also serves as a great refresher course for those who haven’t warped a loom in a long time. Students will be shown a variety of more advanced handwovens, as inspiration. Participation is limited to 12 for a better instructor-participant ratio. Loom preference will be determined by order of class registration. Due to snow days, Buckingham County Public Schools will have school on Friday, March 9. This was originally deemed as a non-school day for students but school will now be in session on this day due to recent bad weather.
