Danny Arthur Slayton

Danny Arthur Slayton, 51, of Farmville, passed away at home with his wife at his side in the early morning hours on Sunday, Jan. 14, ending his battle with pancreatic cancer. Danny began his career as an electronics repairman for Poulston’s TV and Appliance in Farmville, later becoming an Electronics teacher. He taught for thirteen years at Buckingham County Vocational School and later at Prince Edward County Career and Technical School. Danny also taught Sunday School and VBS. Danny enjoyed his family, caring for his family’s homeplace, history and metal detecting. Danny is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Teresa J. Slayton; daughters Heather Nichole Grant and husband J.T. of Rice; and Erin Morgan Slayton of Farmville; sons James Matthew Kelley and wife Lisa of Falls Church, VA; and Chadwick Thomas Elliott and fiancée Lauryn of Lock Haven, PA; sister Laura Mae Mann and husband Melvin of Forrest, VA; sister Bonnie Sue Trenum and husband Bud of Warrenton, VA; brother James Lee Slayton of Lynchburg; sister Linda Gayle Jackson and husband Chris of Fayetteville, NC; cousin Gary Dickerson of Pamplin, VA; mother Frances Dickerson Slayton of Pamplin; Grandchildren Lillian, Scarlett, Avery, and Holden Grant; Shyanne, Ava, and Addison Kelley; and Noah and Walker Elliott; and numerous nephews and nieces. Danny is preceded in death by his father, Bernard Aaron Slayton.

Family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 19, from 6-8 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at Douglas Presbyterian Church.
