On Monday morning Jan. 8, 2018, Iva Kernodle Hall of Buckingham, VA, slipped free from the shackles of her earthly body which had held her captive for over 10 years due to dementia. She is free at last! Iva (better known as GeGe to her 6 grandchildren) was born in Hampden Sydney, VA on Oct. 23, 1923, the daughter of Joseph Morton Kernodle and Bessie Irene Duncan Kernodle. She attended Worsham High School and State Teachers College (Longwood College). Iva was the loving wife of Thomas B. Hall Jr. for over 68 years until his death in 2016. She was a dedicated believer in Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior, member of Maysville Presbyterian Church, past member of Maysville Women of the Church, sang in the church choir, homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a past member of the Buckingham Women’s Club. During her life she shared (along with her sister in law, Virginia Hall) the responsibilities of caring for Tom’s and Charlie’s mother, Mama Ruth (Ruth Swoope Hall) in her own home after Daddy Tom’s death. Taking care of her family at home was very important to her and a huge part of her Christian ministry.
