Wishing a happy New Year

The Prospect Historical Society held its first annual “Door-House-Yard” decorating contest in December. There were three winners with ribbons and cash prizes. The first place winner of $100 was John and Nancy Mottley; second place winner of $50 was Michelle Grimsley; and third place winner of $25 was Tracy Shook. We congratulate each of them.
Betty Sumner spent Christmas with her son and his wife, Dr. and Mrs. Tim K. Sumner, in Manassas from Dec. 24-26.
Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith and their son, Charles and his children, Charles Jr., Christina, Brianna and baby Natalie and Josh all drove to Unionville on Saturday, Dec. 23 to visit Pat’s dad, John Keaveny. They then drove to Stafford to have lunch with Jeff’s mother, Mrs. Dolores Smith.
Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith enjoyed Christmas dinner at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith along with their children, Charles Jr., Christina, Brianna and baby Natalie and Josh.
Richard and Margaret Stockton enjoyed a visit from their son and his family, Lon and Mary Jo Stockton and Sean for Christmas day.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Meadows entertained grandsons, Josh Shotwell, of Richmond, Zack Shotwell, of Dahlgren, and son, Don, of Pamplin at dinner on Christmas Day. It was a surprise to have all of them here for Christmas. Earlier in the day they face timed with their daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Andy and granddaughter, Kate, who live in Illinois.
Lon and Mary Jo Stockton and son Sean hosted a Hogmanay Party on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31. Richard and Margaret Stockton along with a host of friends attended. They celebrated a Scottish New Year welcoming in the New Year at 7 p.m. Scottish time. Some of the food being served included steak pie, peas and mashed potatoes. This was truly a delight.
Mrs. Judy Bolt’s home was the scene for the Bolt family gets together on Christmas Eve for dinner. Those present were Trae and Jennifer Jones; Douglas and Betty Jean Bolt; Stacy Bolt; Andrew Goss; Steve Bolt and Sharon Canterbury; Nichole Murdock; Ashley Bolt and Ron Poythress; Brandon Bolt and Michaela Atkins; Flora Bolt; Haley and Payden Murdock and Neal Fisher. Also, attending were Kyle and Jeni Bolt and sons Joshua and Jacob; Garland Woodson and Ann Parker and John Wallace Woodson.
Mrs. Flora Bolt was Christmas day dinner guest of Mrs. Judy Bolt along with Trae and Jennifer Jones.
On Dec. 29 Flora Bolt joined her brother Garland Woodson and his daughter, Debbie Woodson at Merk’s Place for lunch. Joining them was a cousin Gene Southall. Debbie, of Sanford, North Carolina, has been visiting her father for the week.
Friends and neighbors are praying for a speedy recovery for Gwen Paulson of Chester, Jeannette Tarlton, Frances Southall, Randy Martin, and Betty Jean Bolt.
Neighbors and friends are expressing their heartfelt sympathy to the families of William G. “Bill” Whitter, George E. Davis and William Lee “Bill” Kerns.
Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian church at Tuggle held their Christmas Dinner on Dec. 17. There was a good size crowd and the food and fellowship was excellent. After dinner everyone went in the church for the Candlelight program of Hymns, carols and scripture reading. Mrs. Shirley Robertson, following the program candy, led the program and fruit bags were given to everyone is the custom for the last 80 plus years.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday with Sunday school is at 10 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m.
Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. The Church is located at 302 Industrial Park Road, in the former Stackpole-Carbone building.
