Developing information regarding a new site for the Buckingham County Branch Library will be among items discussed during the Buckingham County Board of Supervisors meeting Monday at 6 p.m.

Joshua Bower, senior project manager with Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates, will give a presentation of the proposed library project, which has been explored at the site of the former Dillwyn Primary School (DPS) at the intersection of Routes 15 and 20. According to the agenda for the Monday meeting, Bower is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

Supervisors voted unanimously last December to authorize contract negotiations with Charlottesville-based Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates to determine whether the DPS site would be suitable for a potential library. The site was found structurally sound in August, according to a report from District Four Supervisor Morgan Dunnavant.

Central Virginia Regional Library Director Rick Ewing addressed members of the public and the board during the November board of supervisors meeting, saying the regional library board was set to meet Nov. 21, and Ewing said he would discuss the library developments with them.

“I’ve spoken to them, individually, and off and on over the last few weeks, and I’m pretty confident in their acceptance and endorsement of the library,” Ewing said. “So I don’t see anything in the way of this. I like the drawings, and I like the work that Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates have done on the library.”

According to the agenda for December’s meeting, members of the board will present a letter from the Central Virginia Regional Library Board of Directors and the Buckingham County Public Library Advisory Board “endorsing the adaptive reuse of part of the former DPS to be a new public library.”
