The Buckingham County Recreation Department is offering parents the chance to take a much-deserved date night during an upcoming event happening Nov. 11.
The Parents Night Out event, taking place from 5-10 p.m., will be located at the former Dillwyn Primary School building across from Fas Mart on North James Madison Highway.
The event is for children between the ages of 3-14.
Tiffany Ownby, assistant director of the Buckingham Parks and Recreation, said she has helped organize the program for the past two years and estimates that between 10 to 20 children will attend.
“Everyone has enjoyed this program, but I will say we do have a hard time trying to get children to attend,” Ownby said. For parents worried about babysitters, she noted that for the event babysitters come from Longwood University.
She said the babysitters will offer activities for the children, giving parents the chance to enjoy a nice dinner or other activities.
“The children do arts and crafts, have gym time, as well as enjoy snacks and a movie while the parents get to enjoy some quiet time,” Ownby said.
According to a release form from the department, parents are encouraged to give their children dinner before heading to the event, and if they are younger and may need a nap, to have the children bring a blanket or sleeping bag. Payment for the event is due by 4 p.m. Thursday.
