Hampden-Sydney College’s (H-SC) football team kept its Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championship chances alive, downing visiting Shenandoah University 49-43 in a high-scoring affair Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers were able to hold off a furious rally from the Hornets that saw them score 21 fourth quarter points — including 13 in the final 1:36 of the game.
In that fourth quarter, Shenandoah had the ball just two minutes, 52 seconds. The Tigers, now at 6-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play, will travel to Ashland on Saturday to face arch-rival Randolph-Macon College in the 122nd playing of “the Game.”
H-SC junior quarterback Alec Cobb went 33-for-49 passing for 365 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions.
Senior wide receiver Cam Johnson, a former Buckingham County High School standout, led the Tigers with 13 catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore wide receiver Major Morgan had seven catches for 100 yards and a touchdown, senior wideout Carter Cunningham, of Farmville, gained 78 yards and a touchdown on seven catches.
