Sorrell convicted of animal cruelty

BUCKINGHAM — A 21-year-old Redford, New York man pled guilty to two counts of animal cruelty in Buckingham County Circuit Court on Tuesday in connection to a video taken by an animal rights group of a Tyson chicken-breeding farm. Jacob Sorrell received two sentences of 12 months in jail with 12 months suspended with five years of unsupervised probation for each. He is also required to pay $210 in court costs. According to online court documents, Sorrell will serve the sentences consecutively. Sorrell also had three charges of animal cruelty that were found to be nolle prosequi, meaning the court abandoned the charges.
Sorrell plead guilty in Mecklenburg Circuit Court to two counts of animal cruelty Aug. 1 and received overall 12 months in jail with 12 months suspended. In Mecklenburg he was also ordered to pay $226 in court costs.
