Fuqua School kicked off its Homecoming week, Unplug the Chargers, on Monday, Oct. 23.  The week of celebration ignited school spirit with daily themed activities, pep rallies, campus-wide picnic and powder-puff football game followed by a bonfire pep rally Thursday night. The Fuqua School Student Cooperative Association, Alumni Association, varsity and JV cheerleaders, band and countless faculty, staff and students worked hard to make homecoming the best week of the year. 

In keeping with tradition, upper school students participated in Fuqua’s Day of Service, helping with community service activities at Habitat ReStore and build-site, The Woodland, Trinity Mission Health and Rehab, SPCA, Town of Farmville, FACES Food Pantry, Farmville Fire Department and other locations in and around the Farmville area. The lower and middle school students also participated in community service activities on campus. Lower school students packed 102 bags of bean soup mix for FACES, made cards for our military, created door decorations for local nursing homes and wrote letters for Operation Shoebox. Middle school students focused on Heart for House by cleaning out and painting a new study room in the Kilpatrick Library and sprucing up their area of campus.

The Alumni Association hosted an alumni pregame gathering at the Homecoming game with children’s activities including a bounce house. Continuing a long-standing tradition, pregame festivities also included the famous Ruritan Stew. Kick-off between the Fuqua Falcons and the Isle of Wight Chargers was at 7 p.m with the Falcons victorious, winning 55-32.

Halftime festivities included the presentation of the homecoming court and the 2016 homecoming queen, Nitalia Summa crowned the 2017 homecoming queen, Hannah Smith. Hannah is the daughter of Beth and Marshall Smith of Cumberland. While at Fuqua, Hannah has been a member of the history, math, spanish, science and english honor societies. She is the current secretary of the senior class along with being a member of the SODA, FFA, where she serves as vice president, and youth and government clubs. Hannah has attended MGA for two years as a delegate and a bill patron. She is also the current co-captain of the varsity cheerleading team. Outside of school she enjoys working for a local business and spending time with family and friends.
