Longwood University’s baseball team will be donning costumes to play in its second annual Spooky Slugfest on Monday beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
While dressed up as their favorite characters come to life, the Lancers will split into two units, the Ghouls and the Goblins, and face each other in a scrimmage as the coaching staff will pitch to each team, officiate the game and generally try to keep all the characters from causing too much mayhem. The Spooky Slugfest, sponsored by Shentel, is the final event of Longwood’s fall practice schedule and is open to the public, free of charge. Children — and kids at heart — are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes in the stands.
The game will be a five-inning contest and each batter will begin with a 2-1 count.
After the action there will be an on-field trick-or-treat around the bases and outfield for kids. Fans are encouraged to come ready to meet the Longwood baseball team.
