County pursues faux Facebook

PRINCE EDWARD — Prince Edward County is attempting to get a Facebook site renamed from its current “Prince Edward County (Farmville Va.)” to make sure citizens don’t confuse the site with being county-operated.
“If you click on the about (section), it does say it is not the official Prince Edward County site, but it does say it is governmental,” Prince Edward County Administrator Wade Bartlett said.
“It is very confusing. We have sent a letter to Facebook asking, because (with) freedom of speech they can’t take it down, but maybe if they can rename it or something so that it’s not as confusing to people, because obviously there has been more than one instance where something has gone up on that site and of course it’s been controversial and they think it’s the county, which it is not.”
Bartlett said the county has attempted to contact the page’s organizers through the Facebook and has received no response.
