Janet Agnes Hall (nee Harrington), a 54-year resident of Farmville, VA, died peacefully just after 5 p.m. on Tues., Sept. 26, 2017. Mrs. Hall was 84. An Episcopal graveside service was held at Westview Cemetery in Farmville on Sept. 30.

Mrs. Hall was predeceased by her parents, Lysle Nelson Harrington and Agnes Rutherford Harrington, of Cooperstown, NY; and by her husband, L. Marshall Hall, Jr., a long-time faculty member at Longwood University in Farmville and next to whom she now rests.

She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Harrington Booth, of Brooklyn, CT and Ellen Harrington Sanford, of Cooperstown, NY; by her son Jared and his wife Jennifer Hall, of Fredericksburg, VA; and by her son Jeffrey, his wife Schenley, and grandsons Jonathan, Benjamin, and Nicholas Hall, of Flagstaff, AZ.

Mrs. Hall was born on May 1, 1933, in Utica, NY. She received a B.A. in 1955 in from Cornell University and an M.A. in teaching from Duke University in 1956. She and Marshall moved to Farmville in 1963, and southside Virginia became her home for the remainder of her life. She was a treasured community member, wife, and Mom; a smart, inquisitive, and practical person to her last days; and the world was better for her presence.

Her family expresses its deepest appreciation to her many friends in the Farmville community for their lifelong companionship and especially for their aid and support in her later years. We are also grateful for the diligent care she received in her final month of life from Southside Community Hospital, The Woodland, and Lynchburg General Hospital.

Mrs. Hall’s health began its final decline on Labor Day weekend of 2017, and we recall the last verse of the old hymn Ora Labora, #541 in the Episcopal Hymnal 1982:

Come, labor on.

No time for rest, till glows the western sky, till the long shadows o’er our pathway lie,

And a glad sound comes with the setting sun: “Servants, well done.”

Well done indeed, Janet; Godspeed; and amen.
