Paul William Schember Sr.

Paul William Schember, Sr., age 95, passed away Sept. 20, 2017 in Ocala, Florida.

He was born October 11, 1921 in Pekin, IL.

Paul is survived by twin sons, Paul Jr. and wife Bette of Ocala, Florida and Michael with wife Sarah of Farmville, Virginia. He is also survived by son-in-law John Mueller of Clinton, Iowa. God blessed Paul with eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Avis (Olson) Schember; daughter Joye Marie (Schember) Mueller; parents, George and Bertha (Long) Schember; brothers, Luther Schember and Martin Schember; sisters, Ruth (Schember) Paysen, Helen (Schember) Voss; and grandson, Greg T. Mueller. He is survived by a sister, Esther (Schember) Studemann.

Paul graduated from Clinton High School in 1939 and married Avis O. Schember on November 12, 1944, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Clinton. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942-1945. He served in the South Pacific during World War II.

From 1958 until 1968 they returned to Clinton and were members of Trinity Lutheran Church. They moved to Virginia taking a position as a garment factory manager and for many years he and his wife owned and operated Schember’s Fashion Fabrics and Schember’s Sewing Center in Farmville and Richmond.

A memorial service will be held in Clinton, Iowa at a later time with interment there.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Farmville, VA.
