Prince Edward County High School’s varsity football team had put together a winning start to the 2017 season, but the Eagles could not keep the momentum going Friday night, falling 14-13 at home to Bluestone High School.

“Take nothing away from Bluestone — they executed their plan,” Prince Edward Head Coach James Ford said. “They run blitzed us and forced us kind of out of our element. They put together a good game plan against us, and we adapted a little bit too late to it … We missed the two-point conversion at the end of the game to possibly win it, but hats off to Bluestone. They did exactly what they needed to do to win.”

The Barons took a 6-0 lead in the game in the second quarter after a 20-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

The Eagles went up 7-6 after a 30-yard interception return for a score by junior Kahare Sutton.

Bluestone regained the lead before the half on a 15-yard touchdown run.

Junior J’Sean Dupuy scored on a 10-yard run late in the game to give the Eagles a chance to win.

He led Prince Edward with 14 carries for 74 yards and a score.

Junior Zion Lewis was 7-for-24 passing for 101 yards and two interceptions.

The Eagles (3-1) visit Randolph-Henry High School on Friday at 7 p.m.
