Dorothy Marie Vider Watkins, lovingly known as “Putter,” departed this life on September 9, 2017 at the home of her loving second family and caregiver. She was born on November 15, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Luther James & Bertha Lovell Vider.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Mona Banton and her husband, Raymond; granddaughter Stephanie Baird and her husband Brandon and great-granddaughter, Ashley Smith, grandson, Ray Banton and his wife Monica and great-grandsons, Bryson Baird & Cody Banton. She is survived by her loving caregiver Denise Thompson and her husband, Mitchell, as well as their children, Shelby, Ivy and Brantley. Denise and her family opened up their home and hearts to give Putter more love and experiences in the last nine months of her life than we could imagine. She is also survived by her daughter, Judith Hull and her husband, Jonathon and their children Lynn Canterbury and her husband, Dustin, Jermiah and Chloe Hull and great-grandson, Brayden Canterbury. She leaves behind a sister, Molly Webb and a brother, Billy Vider, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Putter lived a full life and experienced more than most. She never let her disability stop her from doing anything she wanted. She always said she would live to be 100 and in her mind she had done so, she often reminded us that she was 100.

Her family would like to also thank Bertha Showalter for five years of care which allowed her to stay home as long as she did, as well as numerous other caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Centra Hospice, Farmville, VA. There will be no services, per her request. The family will have a celebration of life at her home, September 30, 2017 at 1:00 pm.
