Recently, there has been so much news featuring the worst of humankind: bigotry, hatred, selfishness and disunity. I have another story to tell about love, generosity, unity and hope.
On Aug. 25, historic devastation came upon Houston, Texas in the form of Hurricane Harvey. Within hours, the people of Buckingham County and the surrounding area were filling trailers with cleaning supplies, diapers, toiletries, food and other necessities to take to the hurting people of Texas.
From morning to evening for seven days, people came by Central Virginia Christian School (CVCS) bringing bags and boxes full of blessings, and they came with hearts full of love to help their neighbors more than 1,000 miles away. A total of four trailers were eventually packed and sent to Gleaning for the World to distribute in Texas along with monetary donations totaling $3,616.
CVCS would like to thank this incredible community for coming together to demonstrate the love of Christ at this critical time. These tangible acts of kindness and compassion in the midst of devastation and destruction should always stand to remind us that we are one fragile people who need each other.
Thank you to the Buckingham, Fuqua, and CVCS school children, church groups and citizens who showed us the best of humankind this week.
