A Keysville man sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision on Route 307 near Route 731 in Prince Edward County on Monday morning.

The accident, reported at approximately 9:32 a.m. according to Virginia State Police (VSP), resulted in the closure of Route 307 for several hours.

Route 307 reopened at approximately 12:30 p.m., according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

According to State Police troopers on scene, a blue 2005 Chevy Tahoe was traveling east on Route 307 when a red 2008 Ford Ranger, traveling west, crossed the center lane and struck the Tahoe head-on.

The driver of the Ford Ranger was airlifted to a Richmond hospital with serious injuries.

The incident remains under investigation and charges are pending.

VSP troopers, the Farmville Volunteer Fire Department, Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office and Rice Volunteer Fire Department were among the agencies that responded to the scene of the accident.

Matthew Glasgow, of Lynchburg, was the driver of the 2005 Tahoe; Darrell Robinson was a passenger. The vehicle had a small trailer hauling construction equipment. Glasgow described the events just before the accident.

“We were just driving down the road, (the vehicle) swerved over on our side,” Glasgow said. “(At the) last second, (the driver) course corrected and drove right into the center of us.”

Both vehicles were totaled.

State Police assisted drivers of 18-wheeler trucks in turning around as the accident caused a traffic delay in both directions of Route 307.
A VSP trooper on scene said detours were in place using Route 617 and U.S. Route 460.

The driver of the Ford Ranger was identified as James Gordon Price Jr., 31, of Keysville. Price is in stable condition, VSP reports, but is undergoing surgeries for serious injuries.
