On Sunday from 2- 4 p.m. Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park will host a presentation on the “History of the 29th Infantry Division (U.S. Army).”

“This proud unit, whose origins can be traced back to the famed ‘Stonewall Brigade’ has historically been comprised of Virginians from the Shenandoah Valley and the Southside regions of the state,” park officials said in a press release.

“Three separate speakers, Command Historian Alexander Barnes, Maj. Gen. Timothy P. Williams and State Parks Manager Chris Calkins, each co-authors of the recently-published book ‘Let’s Go! The History of the 29th Infantry Division 1917-2001,’ will present details on the unit’s humble beginnings and legendary accomplishments, along with artifacts covering World War I, World War II and the War on Terror.” 

During the lecture, the park’s friends group will also be on hand to sell “all you can eat ice cream sundaes.”

“And $5 from the sale of each book will go toward funding future friends group-sponsored educational programs,” park officials said in the press release.
