On July 6, The Herald published “Walk celebrates the land,” covering the story of a handful of Virginians who walked more than 140 miles to cover part of the path that the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) would take through Virginia.

The event, entitled “Walking the Line: Into the Heart of Virginia,” concluded just prior to Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) announcing five separate public hearings on the effects that the proposed Mountain Valley Pipeline and ACP would have on Virginia’s beloved waterways.

These pipelines would strip property rights from owners, require miles of mountaintops to be forcibly removed and poison the Buckingham community with a toxic compressor station.

Furthermore, the Virginia River Healers recently published that these two pipelines would cross six major river basins in Virginia, threatening the integrity of the water of millions of Americans.

I urge that all members of Farmville, Buckingham and the surrounding communities join us Thursday at Jarman Auditorium, located at Longwood University (201 High St., Farmville, VA 23901) at 6 p.m. to let McAuliffe and the DEQ know that Virginians stand united against these projects for the sake of our property, the health of our communities and the integrity of our waterways.
