Darrel Kevin Baldwin, 60, of Crewe, went to be with the Lord on July 11, 2017 surrounded by family. He was born on July 26, 1956 to Frank Edward Baldwin and Evelyn Martin Baldwin of Crewe. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Diane Baldwin Joyner and Sharon Baldwin.
He leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Julie Miller Baldwin; and his five children; Charity and husband, Beau Cox of Palatka, FL, Zachary Baldwin, Daniel Baldwin, Micah Baldwin, and Bethany Baldwin of Crewe. He was blessed with three treasured grandchildren: Rachel, Hunter, and Hannah Cox of Palatka, FL; also survived by two brothers; Reverend Don Baldwin (Jackie), Dwain (Theresa); two sisters; Debra Moore (Ricky), and Darleen Fortenberry (Reverend Ted).
Darrel was a beloved uncle to 34 nieces and nephews. He loved to spend time with them and all of his extended family.
He was a retired conductor with Norfolk Southern Railroad, following his father’s footsteps as a railway man. He also followed his father in church ministry, being a constant presence in The Church of God since childhood, taking on multiple responsibilities and serving his Savior. His responsibilities included roles as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and worship leader. His booming baritone voice will be missed during worship. Darrel enjoyed having long conversations, playing games with family and friends, and being a playmate to his grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his servant’s spirit, his huge and giving heart toward others, his corny humor, and his infectious laugh. Though he is safe in the arms of Jesus, his personality and strong faith live on in those he loved.
A service celebrating Darrel’s life will be held Monday, July 17 in the chapel of Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville, Virginia at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, July 16 from 7-9 p.m. at Puckett Funeral Home.
