Sprouse’s Corner Ranch is a family-owned and operated horse and cattle operation in the Heart of Virginia. Horse boarding, riding lessons, pony parties, horse shows, camps and workshops are all a part of the ranch, specializing in learning and living with horses with an emphasis on fun.

Several camps are being offered this summer at the ranch. Horsemanship II Camp will be held July 24-28. This camp is offered for intermediate and advanced riders or riders who have completed Horsemanship I Camp. Riding lessons will focus on developing an independent seat, more advanced riding skills and a more in-depth study of horse management skills.

This camp introduces hunt seat, western, gymkhana and a saddle seat riding styles, as well as the opportunity to learn to drive a cart. Campers will also have the opportunity to demonstrate their new skills to the parents and family on the last day of camp. Cost is $275. Bethlehem Baptist Church is sponsoring its first ever back-to-school clothing drive. They are looking for gently-used clothes for school-aged children. Take this summer to clean out your children’s closet and donate them to help other children in our community. Dates for clothing drop off will be announced soon. Big League Dreams baseball instruction offers individual instructions, pitching, hitting, fielding fundamentals and video analysis.

The Sawtelle School of Performing Arts and Awareness offers year-round classes. Classes are held at the Buckingham Arts Center and instructed by Sakina Sawtelle. Topics include domestic arts, Reiki, meditation, circle of friends gathering, music lessons (piano and guitar), creative dance (ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance) and exercise classes incorporating aerobics, yoga and pilates. Buckingham County Youth League has upcoming 2017 district and state tournaments. On July 14, the Darlings State meet at South Hill, the Angels State meet at Lunenburg, Ponytails State meet at South Hill, Belles State meet at Rustburg and Debs State meet at Dinwiddie. Boys baseball tournaments include July 14 for the Coach Pitch State at Brookneal and Majors State at Lunenburg. Minors State will be on July 21 in Appomattox.

Year-round yoga classes are offered Wednesdays from 9:30-11:15 a.m. for ages 12 to adult. Lessons are held at the Buckingham Agricultural Building and instructed by Hope Mell. Cost is $30, four consecutive classes or $45, six consecutive classes. Participants will need a yoga mat, large towel or blanket. This class reduces stress and increases health. Please wear loose-fitting clothing that does not restrict movement. No jeans.
