A 41-year-old Cumberland man was sentenced to 10 years in jail suspended after being found guilty on charges of child abuse in Prince Edward Circuit on June 23.
According to court documents, John Joseph Long’s sentence comes in addition to a May 23 sentence in Cumberland Circuit Court of an additional 20-year sentence with 13 years suspended after he was found guilty on two charges of aggravated sexual battery and a suspended 10-year sentence after being found guilty for indecent liberties with a child age 15 or younger.
In Cumberland, Long was also found not prosecuted on two additional charges of indecent liberties with a child age 15 or younger, two charges of sodomy with a victim 13 years or younger, indecent act with child by parent and two charges of non-forcible sodomy that were withdrawn prior to trial.
Prior to the trial, the court ordered Long to undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation, which was to be conducted by a qualified evaluator.
John’s wife, April Joy Long, plead guilty in Cumberland Circuit Court to charges of incest with a child, parent violate child 15 years or younger, indecent act
with child by parent and rape with a victim age 13 or younger.
