Central Virginia Community Health Center (CVCHC) recently welcomed Dr. Denise Crosson to the position of psychiatric family nurse practitioner.
“CVCHC was pleased to have received a grant from the Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF) that made the creation of this position possible,” officials said in a press release. “Dr. Crosson will provide high-quality behavioral health services and will be part of an integrated, comprehensive primary care team at CVCHC.”
According to a press release, Crosson received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
“She received her Master of Science (degree) in nursing, doctor of philosophy in nursing and her certificate in psychiatric mental health nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University,” officials said in the release. “She brings with her many years of experience, having worked in both private and hospital settings. Dr. Crosson has also served as educational instructor for the University of Nevada in Las Vegas and Virginia Commonwealth University.”
“I am excited to join the staff at CVCHC and to provide this very important service to the community,” Crosson said in the release.
According to the release, CVCHC is part of Central Virginia Health Services (CVHS), a non-profit community health center — Virginia’s first community health center. CVCHC currently offers family medical, dental and pharmacy services.
“Community health centers like CVCHC are community-based and patient-directed organizations that serve populations with limited access to health care because of geography, lack of insurance, poverty or other factors,” officials said in the release. “Along with other health care safety net providers, the health center plays a key role in the community’s health. CVCHC takes most insurance plans and offers an income-based discount for services for low-income families.”
The release cited that CVCHC has received previous VHCF grants that have enabled it to expand services and increase access to health care providers at several of its sites.
