Sunday accident sends one to hospital

A single-vehicle accident Sunday resulted in one person being transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

Hampden-Sydney Volunteer Fire Department Chief L.W. Gilliam said and Virginia State Police Public Relations Director Corinne Geller said the vehicle was traveling southbound in the 1400 block of Farmville Road Sunday morning when it veered off of the roadway, drove past power lines and entered the woods, striking a tree.

Gilliam said fire department volunteers and rescue personnel received the call reporting the accident at about 7:46 a.m.

Gilliam said the victim was removed from the vehicle and transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital.

The vehicle was removed from the woods off of the road and towed from the scene.

Along with the fire department, the Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad, Prince Edward Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police responded to the incident.

Virginia State Police is handling the case, Gilliam said.

Geller said the accident remains under investigation.
