The Destination Imagination program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic challenges in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
According to a Cumberland County Public Schools press release, this year, the Cumberland County Middle School (CCMS) team, known as “Kreative Kidz 2x,” selected the scientific challenge, entitled “Top Secret.”
“The team participated in the Jefferson Regional Competition, where they placed third. They went on to the Virginia Finals, where they placed seventh out of 15 teams,” officials said in the release.
The release cited that team members included Kristen Caleb, Cooper Ellis, Calvin Foster, Mia Long, Wyatt Pence, Shelia Robinson and Michael Ross. The group sponsor was teacher Linda Grounard. The group was recognized at the May meeting of the Cumberland School Board.
