A 21-year-old Prince Edward County man was arrested recently on charges in connection to eluding police in Buckingham, including possession with intent to manufacture or sell schedule I or II drugs.

According to police, Robert O’Connor was arrested on 11 charges, including possession of a firearm with a schedule I or II drug, possession with intent to distribute marijuana between a half ounce to five pounds, possession with intent to manufacture or sell schedule I or II drugs, disregard or elude law enforcement command, driving without a license, failure to surrender revoked plates, failure to obtain vehicle registration and title, operating an uninsured vehicle, unauthorized possession of a vehicle inspection sticker and drinking while driving.

Sheriff William G. “Billy” Kidd Jr. said O’Connor was in possession of two ounces of marijuana and half of an ounce of methamphetamine.

“He was stopped eventually (on) Claybank Road, but they had a checking detail at the Buckingham/Cumberland line on (Route) 60, and they asked him to pull over because it indicated he didn’t have a license,” Kidd said. “Before they could walk up there and talk to him he floored it and took off so they chased him.”

Kidd said there was no prior investigation of O’Connor.

“He was arrested for the other charges … and the drugs were found subsequent to the search,” Kidd said.

He said when the sheriff’s department takes possession of a vehicle, they search it before it’s towed.
