Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and spend an evening in Downtown Farmville under the stars Friday.
According to a press release, the Downtown Film Series will open its 20th anniversary Season of “Stars Under the Stars” on Friday with Disney’s animated classic, “Beauty and the Beast” (1991, Rated G).
“In this ‘tale as old as time,’ a selfish young prince suffers a curse and is transformed into the monstrous Beast,” officials said in the release. “The only way to break the curse is to learn to love and be loved in return. Years later, a maiden named Belle agrees to take her father’s place as the Beast’s prisoner in his enchanted castle.”
“Join us this Friday, June 9 for “Beauty and the Beast,” the first film of the 20th anniversary season of Stars Under the Stars,” officials said in the release.
According to the release, the presentation will begin at dusk at Crute Stage, located on the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in downtown Farmville.
“Come early for pre-show trivia and drawings and a special appearance by Belle,” officials said in the release. “She will arrive at 8 p.m. and would love to meet and have a picture taken with all kids and kids at heart.”
The release cited parking will be available on Main Street and in the municipal parking lot behind the courthouse.
“Admission is always free, and popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for purchase. Please note there is a ‘no pets’ policy,” officials said in the release.
“In the event of rain, the film will be shown the following evening at dusk. The season’s remaining films are ‘Ghostbusters’ — July 14 — and ‘The Sting’ — Aug. 11.”
“Thanks go out to the sponsors for this year’s Stars Under the Stars: Central Virginia Regional Library, Putney Mechanical, Real Living Cornerstone: Navona Hart and Red Door 104,” officials said in the release.
“Donations provided by Pepsi. Special thanks to The Farmville Herald and the Town of Farmville.”
