As a parent of one of the Longwood University Softball players, I wanted to write and thank everyone who came out to cheer us on during all of our games, but in particular during the Big South Tournament.

Your enthusiasm during the tournament and throughout the year was not only encouraging but also so critical to our win.

This season was a tough one. As you probably know, we rallied from last in the conference to win the championship and a berth in the NCAA Regionals. We couldn’t have done it without our hometown support. You often hear people talk about the “12th Man.”

Well, the local Farmville supporters were our “12th Man.”

Thank you to the merchants who displayed our posters, the local law enforcement who not only attended games but have been known to take a few late night swings with the ladies during impromptu batting practices, to those parents and teams who brought youngsters to watch and to all of our regular fan base, including Roy Nunnally (who never missed a home game). You all helped us win.

Your enthusiasm and support made our hometown win that much sweeter. They often say it takes a village — well, in this case it took a town.
