The Farmville-Prince Edward Historical Society will salute veterans during their meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Historic Farmville Train Station, 510 W. Third St. According to a historical society press release, the program will feature a taped interview with Herbert Stokes who served in the Army Air Force. 

“During World War II, (Stokes) was a navigator on a B-24 Liberator plane,” officials said. “His plane was shot down on Feb. 22, 1945.” According to the historical society, Stokes was captured and became a prisoner of war at Moosburg, Germany. Stokes is the father of Carey Stokes, Allison Martin and Linda Johnson.

“His daughters, (Allison and Linda), will introduce this interesting video presentation,” officials said. “Bill Poulston will display and discuss the uniform and equipment of World War I Veteran Pvt. Letcher Simpson.”

The meeting is free and open to the public.
