MAY 5

ONE NIGHT SPRING REVIVAL, 7 p.m. of the Youth of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Cumberland. The message will be delivered by the Rev. Walter Barrett from the Mount Hope Baptist Church, Louisa. The music ministry will be by the Stand Up for Christ Community Choir. Worship will begin at 7:30 p.m.

ANNUAL PLANT SALE, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. sponsored by The Heart of Virginia Master Gardeners at the Historic Train Station in downtown Farmville. Plants offered for sale will include vegetables, herbs, annuals, many perennials, shrubs, groundcovers and more. In addition to the plants for sale, two free programs will be offered. At 10 a.m., learn about the veggies you might want to plant this year. At 11 a.m., learn about growing mint and lemon balm in your herb garden. Planting considerations, harvesting and easy ways to make herbal brews at home will be discussed.

YARD SALE AND AUCTION, 7 a.m.-1 p.m. for Antioch Union Baptist Church-Baptist Women. Breakfast, bake sale and lunch will be available. Space available to sell your items at $10 a table. HEART OF VA CLASSIC CAR CLUB will be at the Heart of Virginia Festival. If you wish to enter your car, visit the Heart of Virginia Festival website and go to the car show link to get the application. The fee is $10 and you can register that morning. The club will be by the McDonald’s on Main Street.

ANNUAL PRAYER BREAKFAST, 9 a.m. at Fork Union Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Johnson, pastor of Chief Cornerstone, will be guest speaker. Program includes a memorial to cancer victims and honoring of cancer survivors. All are invited to attend and participate. A full, hot breakfast will be served.

CINCO DE MAYO CELEBRATION, 6-8 p.m. sponsored by PALS at the historic Pamplin Train Depot. The event is free and family-friendly. Funds raised will offset the expenses of rent for the building.

Donations are happily accepted. Individual or business sponsorships of as little as $100 will fund this event for one month.

MISSION DAY, 2:30 p.m. at First Liberty Baptist. Guest speaker will be Minister Anita Spivey of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Charlottesville. Lunch will be served. All are welcome.

ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. of the Midway Baptist Church Ushers Ministry. The musical guest will be Peaks Baptist Church Male Chorus. Ushers are asked to wear their uniforms. Midway is located at 837 Guinea Road, Farmville.

HOMECOMING, 11:15 a.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church, 707 Prospect Road. Pastor John Flood of Swain Memorial UMC, Tangier Island, will be preaching. Drew Bowles will provide special music. ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING, 1-3 p.m. of the Buckingham County Youth League at the Buckingham County Agricultural Building. Interested volunteers should come complete a membership application and learn about specific ways to contribute to the youth sports programs of Buckingham County. ANNUAL WOMEN’S DAY, 3 p.m at Jericho Baptist Church, 615 Franklin St. The preacher for the occasion will be the Rev. Sybil Jones, associate minister of Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland. The choir will accompany her. All are invited to attend. A fellowship dinner will be served following the 11 a.m. service. Dr. James H. Taylor is senior pastor.

REVIVAL, 7 p.m will take place nightly at Prospect United Methodist Church, 707 Prospect Road, and continuing through Wednesday, May 10. Pastor John Flood, of Swain Memorial Church, will preach both Monday and Tuesday. All Problems Solved will provide special music with Worm Patterson on Monday and Smokey Wilson on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the last evening of the revival, Pastor Billy Swan, of the Dillwyn Charge, will preach. The Salem United Methodist Church Choir will join him. Refreshments will be served. WOMEN’S OUTDOOR WEEKEND, at Holiday Lake while learning the outdoor skills you’ve always wanted to master. Meet at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center, 1267 4-H Camp Road, Appomattox. The program is open to women ages 10-adult (under 18 must attend with a participating parent). This program offers classes in archery, awareness, basic camping, basic car care, fishing (license required), cold weather survival, edible/medicinal plants, handgun, kayaking, map and compass, orienteering, outdoor cooking, rifle and self-defense. MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND HIKES, along the Spur Line Trail or Camp Paradise Trail with a park ranger. The Spur Line Trail hikes will be on Saturday, May 13 at 11 a.m. and on Sunday, May 14 at 1 p.m. Camp Paradise Trail hikes will be on Saturday, May 13 at 2 p.m. and on Sunday, May 14 at 3 p.m. These hikes are moderately strenuous in places and will be approximately a mile and a half to two miles in length on hilly terrain.
