Three people were injured in two separate crashes over the weekend in Prince Edward.
“Virginia State Police are investigating a pursuit that resulted in the suspect vehicle crashing in Prince Edward County,” said State Police Spokeswoman Corinne Geller, referencing the crash. “The incident began at approximately 9:06 a.m., when a Virginia State Police trooper attempted to stop a 1996 Cadillac Seville traveling south on Route 15. The trooper was parked on Route 15 at the county line conducting stationary radar, which registered the vehicle traveling 93 mph in the posted 55 mph zone. The driver of the Cadillac refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated,” she said.
Geller said the Cadillac made it approximately one mile south on Route 15 when it crossed the centerline, ran off the left side of the highway, struck two mailboxes and a tree. “The driver, Charles Thornton, 53, of Crewe … was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.”
Thornton was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries, she said.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
A second accident, reported Saturday at 9:30 a.m. on state Route 630 more than two miles west of Route 360, resulted in two injuries, Geller said.
“Virginia State Police Trooper A.S. Trombley is investigating a two-vehicle crash in Prince Edward County … A 1990 Ford Bronco was traveling east on Route 630 when it came through a curve traveling on the wrong side of the road and struck a westbound Ford Taurus. The impact of the crash caused the Bronco to overturn three times before coming to rest on its wheels.”
Geller said the driver of the Bronco, Joshua C. Allen, 18, of Meherrin, was not wearing a seatbelt. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
“The driver of the Taurus, Cheyenne R. Link, 20, of Victoria … was not wearing a seatbelt. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries,” Geller said.
Allen was charged with reckless driving.
