LU Women’s Lacrosse wins Big South opener

Freshmen attackers Lexi Davis, Molly Barkman and Kaitlin Luccarelli provided the Longwood University women’s lacrosse team with plenty of ammunition to power a 19-16 road win over Big South rival Radford University on Saturday and open conference play 1-0 for the second consecutive season.
Barkman won eight draw controls, scored two goals and corralled four ground balls while Davis scored two goals and added a career-best six assists in the win. Luccarelli tied her career-best with four goals and added three assists, two coming in the decisive second half.
The Lancers won the battle of shots (41-29), ground balls (29-20), turnovers (15-21), caused turnovers (11-9) and clears (20-19), helping them snap a three-game losing streak.
Longwood (5-6) hosts Liberty University (2-9, 1-0 in the Big South) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
