Women who own or manage farm or forest land in Amelia, Nottoway, Prince Edward and surrounding counties are invited to participate in three days of engaging discussion and fellowship focused on women in agriculture and natural resources in the region.

“Sponsored by the Piedmont Soil & Water Conservation District, the ‘Women & Land’ Conservation Learning Circle is an American Farmland Trust (AFT) program designed for women landowners who own or make management decisions on Virginia forest or farmland,” organizers said in a press release.

“With more than one million women already operating American farms and a growing number of women inheriting, starting or taking charge of working farms every day, AFT has been part of an initiative trying to address the need for policies and programs specifically targeted for women landowners.”

The series will focus on strategies that landowners can use to increase their knowledge and experience to set and achieve conservation goals for their land. “Discussion topics will include whole farm planning, conservation resources, leasing and tenant issues and land protection.”

Meeting dates are April 11, May 9 and June 6. All meetings will be held from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Cost for all three sessions is $15 and includes dinners. Pre-registration is required. Attendance at all three sessions is strongly encouraged since landowners will be active participants in all discussions.
