Cumberland County student Lorraine Foster — a high school senior who serves as the school board’s liaison — offered a presentation to the members of the Cumberland School Board during their February meeting about her experiences at the Virginia School Board Association workshop for student liaisons.
The workshop, which was held in Williamsburg in November, included sessions intended to teach life and learning skills to student leaders.
The workshop featured various speakers, who worked with students on policy making, possible board situations and life as a student representative.
Foster indicated that students who participated in the workshop learned much about the process for creating school board policy and had a chance to draft a proposed policy. Student Kayla Foster, a senior, attended the workshop.
