Burkeville teen dies in ATV accident, passenger seriously injured

A 17-year-old girl is dead and a 14-year-old boy suffered serious injuries in an ATV accident Sunday in Prince Edward County.
According to Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller, Janet M. Driver, of Burkeville, and a male passenger were riding a 2014 Suzuki ATV at 5:03 p.m. on Sunday while traveling along Route 713 near Green Bay when it ran off the left side of the road.
“The vehicle overturned several times and struck several trees before finally coming to a stop,” Geller said. “The driver and 14-year-old passenger were thrown from the vehicle.”
According to Geller, Driver was transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, where died Sunday. The passenger was flown to VCU Medical Center in Richmond and is being treated for serious injuries.
Geller said neither the driver nor passenger were wearing a helmet.
According to Geller the crash remains under investigation at this time.
